How can you keep your team motivated when working with AI?

Use AI when needed.

Artificial intelligence is a diverse and broad field with many use cases. With software being even larger. Setting a clear expectation at the beginning, backed by research, will ensure you are setting your team up for success. Once the team is clear on the directions and roles it’s time to take action! All the while measuring what success is.

Praising your team and focusing on wins will take your AI team farther than you think. While starting a project with confidence is a must you will encounter complications and setbacks. This is when it is more important than ever to recognize progress. Lifting your team up consistently. If something does go wrong and needs to be addressed, do it in private. Away from the team where it could reduce morale.

Something leaders don’t expect is that giving their team permission to work on a different project will actually result in progress. Engineers, by nature, are very inquisitive and love to learn. Give them the liberty to dedicate a portion of their working time to something they would love to work on personally. It will invigorate your team while simultaneously reinforcing your mission of learning and innovation.

I have seen first hand the incredible impact that diversity, inclusion, and collaboration can have in teams. New perspectives and different backgrounds mix together to create a really unique working environment. With AI teams, the result is more effective problem solving and cross-functional collaboration. Accelerating the pace at which things get done.

With the current arms race to AGI AI teams are being pushed harder than ever before. It’s common to see burnout and frustration from team member if their well being is not supported. Managers and business owners need to recognize when their team is starting to become disengaged. They need to get ahead of it by offering employees a work life balance, time off, and the right benefits.
