The right resources!
In order to be someone who knows what they are talking about you need to consume the right information. Constantly. The best way to do this is with the right foundations. Find courses online or youtube series that teach you the basics.
Once you have decent fundamentals start to consume recent news and updates in the field by following newsletters and sites that are updated daily. Your knowledge will grow and opportunities will come to you out of nowhere.

There’s nothing worse than claiming to be a Top Voice or an expert and not know what you are talking about. Get started with newsletters or an online curriculum. Quickly transitioning to your own self-guided learning.
Solo projects are a great way to learn on your own. With an end goal in mind of what you want to build or write about you will be motivated to seek out new information and play with new tools. Plenty of sites exist that will develop your technical skills such as Kaggle or DataCamp. Keep in mind though it’s not all technical. There will be an explosion of all sorts of jobs in AI.
Follow The Trends
You’re wasting your time trying to predict where AI is going. Watching Sam Altman interviews isn’t going to help either.
To stay ahead of trends in AI you need to actively engage with others in the field. Seeking out new information as often as you can.
Apply Your Knowledge
I have a confession to make. For years I thought that just reading and talking about AI would get me a position in the field.
I WAS WRONG.
It wasn’t until that I started to actively apply my knowledge, both individually and as part of a team, that I started to see the big wins.
Making the commitment to build in public will give you the opportunity to share you work, results, and lessons learned. Both good and bad.
Don’t feel like you need to be the best out there to start applying your knowledge. People like to see that you are human. They want to see that you are learning, bettering yourself just like they are.
Use the greater community as support to keep learning new things. Always apply what you learn. Quickly.
